Stratford boys basketball upends first-place Assumption

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Stratford boys basketball earned its biggest victory of the season, handing Wisconsin Rapids Assumption a crushing loss with a 59-46 victory Monday night at Assumption High School.

Stratford ends the Marawood Conference South Division season with a 6-6 record and improves to 13-8 heading into a conference crossover game at home Thursday against Chequamegon.

With the loss, Assumption has to settle for a tie for the Marawood South championship with Marathon. The Royals (15-6 overall) and Marathon end up 10-2 in the conference.

Stratford jumped on the Royals early, taking a 27-18 lead by halftime.

Stratford shot 57 percent (19 of 33) overall and was 7 of 12 from 3-point range.

Brenden Fecker made four 3-pointers, was 7-for-10 at the free throw line, and finished with a team-high 23 points for the Tigers.
