Marshfield boys golf fourth at third leg of WVC tournament

MERRILL – Derek Michalski tied for fifth place and Marshfield finished fourth at the third leg of the 2017 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Merrill Public Golf Course.

Michalski shot a 79 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place, five shots behind meet medalist Russell Dettmering of Merrill. It was the second-straight meet in the tournament that Dettmering was the medalist.

Stevens Point finished first with a 311, a whopping 21 shots ahead of second-place Wausau West. D.C. Everest was third with a 333 and Marshfield fourth with a 340.

Grant Michaelis added an 84 to finish in a tie for 14th place for the Tigers. Ben Baur had an 88, Zach Hanson shot an 89 and Brendan Schneider had a 90 for Marshfield.

The Tigers finished third at the first two meets and remain in third place, one point ahead of D.C. Everest.

The fourth leg of the tournament is Tuesday at Wausau Country Club. Wausau West is the host.
