Loyal tops Spencer baseball in extra innings

SPENCER – Loyal scored two runs in the top of the eighth and ninth innings to get past Spencer 5-3 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Thursday at Spencer High School.

The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings before Loyal scored twice in the top of the eight. Spencer extended the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning, before the Greyhounds struck again and held on for the victory.

Hunter Luepke struck out five and gave up just one run through seven innings for Spencer. Tanner Kleinschmidt took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs in two innings.

Dom Wichlacz had a single, a double and two RBIs, and Luepke was 3-for-5 for Spencer.

The Rockets play a nonconference doubleheader at Auburndale on Saturday.
