MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team dropped three games at its home tournament on Saturday, falling to Holmen 8-2, Antigo 15-12, and Appleton West 14-5.

Antigo (17-2) was a perfect 3-0 to win the tournament title.

Marshfield (5-9) was limited to two runs, both coming in the second inning, and just five hits against Holmen. Aaron Braun and Hunter Korger had RBIs in the second for the Tigers.

The Tigers led 7-5 after four innings against Antigo, but couldn’t hold on as the Red Robins posted five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Marshfield scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to cut Antigo’s six-run lead in half, but couldn’t get any more across.

Braden Bohman had two singles, a double, and a triple, scored three times, and had four RBIs for Marshfield in the loss. Andy Goettl had three hits and scored three times, and Jared Klein and Ryan Krueger each had two RBIs for the Tigers.

Appleton West (8-12) scored in all seven innings against four Marshfield pitchers. Brandon Montalvo had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI, and Krueger was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored for the Tigers.

“We lost three times today and that’s tough on anybody,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Getting through 21 innings was a big challenge, but we stayed competitive. I had to let our pitchers work longer and try to get through james where I normally would pull them. I believe that will make those pitchers better in the long run. It was also great to see some of our sophomore that normally play JV contribute as well.”

In other games in the tournament on Saturday, Antigo blanked Appleton West 11-0 and Holmen beat West 4-1. On Friday, Antigo beat Holmen 11-3.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East on Tuesday.
