Stratford softball tops Auburndale in Marawood South finale

STRATFORD – Eight different Stratford players had hits, and Sammy Kaiser hit a home run and had two RBIs to lift the Tigers past Auburndale 14-4 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday at Hilgemann Field.

The game was the Marawood South finale for both teams. Auburndale is now 9-8 overall and finishes 6-6 in conference play, while Stratford improves to 16-6 and ends up 9-3 in the Marawood South.

Sammy Griesbach was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Cassidy VanDerLeest, Courtney Kaiser and Shalynn Griesmer each added a pair of hits, and Kaiser had three RBIs for the Tigers.

Kiana Weiler earned the win, striking out six in the five-inning, complete-game effort.

Marissa Ponshock hit a home run and Mackenzie Raab had two RBIs for Auburndale.

Stratford hosts Spencer in a nonconference game Friday, while Auburndale is off until Saturday when it hosts its annual tournament.
