Columbus Catholic softball sweeps two from Owen-Withee

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Owen-Withee on Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

The Dons won 15-4 and 15-8 to finish the regular season at 6-11 overall and 4-10 in the Cloverbelt East. Owen-Withee ends up 2-12 in the conference.

In Game 1, Columbus scored multiple runs in all five of its at-bats as Sierra Litwaitis tossed a five-hitter to earn the victory.

Brooke Neider hit a home run and scored three times, and Addison Baierl, Taylor Tolppi, and Annika Brown each had two hits for the Dons in the victory.

In the second game, the Dons trailed 5-2 after two innings before rallying to tie it after 4 ½ innings. Columbus scored one in the fifth to take the lead and opened up a big lead with a nine-run sixth.

Ella Schultz, Maddie DeSmet and Neide each had three hits, and Neider had three RBIs for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic opens up postseason play with a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal at the Marshfield Fairgrounds against Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.
