AUBURNDALE – Auburndale scored seven runs in its final two at-bats to pull away and defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 11-4 in a nonconference softball game Monday at Auburndale High School.

The game was added to the schedule after Auburndale’s annual tournament scheduled for May 20 was canceled due to inclement weather.

The game was tied 4-4 through four innings before Auburndale scored three times in the fifth inning and added four more in the sixth.

Alexis Soppe earned the victory for the Apaches, throwing three hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts.

Marissa Ponshock had a double and scored twice, and Rachael Bolder and Soppe also scored a pair of runs each for Auburnadale (10-8).

Maren Seefluth had three runs scored and Maddie DeSmet had two RBIs for Columbus (6-12).

Columbus Catholic hosts a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Marshfield Fairgrounds against Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran. Auburndale opens postseason play Wednesday with a Division 4 regional semifinal at Markesan.
