SPENCER – Jenna Schober knocked in Courtney Buss with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Spencer beat Cadott 2-1 in a WIAA Division 4 softball regional semifinal Wednesday at Spencer High School.

Spencer (18-5) moves on to a D-4 regional final Thursday at home against Thorp (12-10). Game time is 5 p.m.

Cadott led 1-0 before the Rockets rallied with a run in the fifth to tie it.

Schober walked, went to second on a passed ball and third on a ground out before scoring on another ground out by Sadie Mericer to tie the game.

Spencer just missed out on taking the lead in the sixth when Tiffany Meinders would have scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Buss, but Buss was called out for stepping on the plate as she bunted.

Finally, in the eighth, the Rockets found pay dirt. Buss singled with two strikes and two outs, stole second, and scored on Schober’s single to right field to win it.

Meinders went the entire game on the mound for the Rockets, scattering seven hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Mercier had two of Spencer’s eight hits.
