Auburndale softball upsets Markesan in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

MARKESAN – Alexis Soppe and Maggie Willfahrt combined on a one-hitter as the Auburndale softball team pulled off a 7-1 upset at No. 3 seed Markesan in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Wednesday.

Auburndale (10-8), the sixth seed in the regional, moves on to a regional final at No. 2 Stevens Point Pacelli (16-8) on Friday.

Auburndale led 2-1 after three innings and put the game away with two runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.

Soppe allowed one run and one hit in three innings, and Willfahrt came in and threw four hitless innings of relief to finish off the victory for Auburndale.

Jenna Ertl had three hits and scored three times, Hannah Bolder had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs, and Mackenzie Raab had a double and two RBIs for Auburndale.
