MARSHFIELD – Marshfield senior left-hander Jake Brueggen tossed a three-hit complete-game shutout as the Tigers downed New Richmond 5-0 in a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional semifinal Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield (8-12) moves on to a D-1 regional final at Chippewa Falls (14-8) at 5 p.m. Thursday. The winner advances to sectionals Tuesday, June 6, at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point.

Brueggen struck out nine, did not walk a batter, and scattered three hits to pick up the win for Marshfield.

Marshfield scored once in the first, another time in the fifth and gave Brueggen some breathing room with three more runs in the sixth.

Jared Klein had a single, a double, and three RBIs for Marshfield. Connor Jasurda went for 3-for-4, and Ryan Krueger and Braden Bohman each had two hits in the win.

“We played well offensively, defensively and pitched it real well too,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Jake threw a shutout and was very efficient with his pitches , a great game for him. Jared Klein had some big hits in key moments to drive in three for us. He did a great job behind the plate too.”
