College roundup: Updates on Wirtz, Dupee

A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing sports collegiately across the country.

Periodically, MarshfieldAreaSports.com will publish a College Sports Roundup updating readers of some of those local athletes’ exploits at the collegiate level.

Luke Wirtz

Wirtz wraps up career at Concordia
Luke Wirtz, a 2013 Marshfield High School graduate, finished his career on the Concordia University baseball team.

Wirtz, a backup catcher, was 6-for-25 for a .240 batting average with six RBIs this season. He played in 55 games in his four-year career, batting .264 (28 of 106) with five doubles, one home run and 13 RBIs.

Concordia, an NCAA Division III school in Mequon, finished the season 28-13 overall and 15-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lexi Dupee

Dupee plays at UW-River Falls
Lexi Dupee, a 2016 Marshfield High School graduate, recently finished her freshman season on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls softball team.

Dupee played in 32 of the team’s 33 games, with 31 starts at third base. She hit .330 (37 of 112) with 20 runs scored, 10 RBIs and eight doubles. She also had a .960 fielding percentage, with just four errors all season.

Dupee had 10 multi-hit games for the Falcons, including going 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against Susquehanna University (Pa.) on March 13 at Clermont, Fla.
