MARSHFIELD – It was a rough night for the Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team.

Marshfield led 1-0 after two innings before the Stevens Point Post 6 offense erupted for 18 runs over the next four innings and rolled to a 19-8 victory in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League contest Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The loss is Marshfield’s second in a row and the Blue Devils fall to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Walker Wuethrich walked and scored on an error to give Marshfield a 1-0 lead after two innings.

From there it was all Sixers. Stevens Point scored five runs in the third, chasing Marshfield starter Jake Brueggen, who was uncharacteristically hit hard, allowing seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings of work.

Jared Johnsrud entered and got the Blue Devils out of further trouble in the third, but then was hit hard himself in the fourth as Point plated three more runs, two on an RBI single by Legend Kieleszewski and another on a groundout.

Austin Palacek had an RBI double in the fourth to bring Marshfield to within five at 8-3 before the Sixers scored two more in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single by Brady Franz.

Johnsrud had an RBI single in the fifth and Jared Klein scored on a wild pitch to again give Marshfield a glimmer of hope, cutting the deficit to 10-5, but the Sixers were unstoppable against Blue Devils reliever Connor Berry in the sixth.

Stevens Point scored eight times on seven hits in the sixth, sending 12 batters to the plate. Josh Morton had a two-run single and Zach Zimmerman drove in two runs with a pair of RBI singles in the inning, putting the Sixers on top 18-5.

Marshfield scored its final runs in the sixth thanks to three bases-loaded walks.

Point finished with 20 hits, all singles, including four each from Isaac Perner and Zimmerman. Morton had three hits and three RBIs, and Kieleszewski had four RBIs in the win for the Sixers.

Ryan Krueger and Connor Jasurda each had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Next up for Marshfield is a home-and-home with Merrill. The Blue Devils play at Merrill on Wednesday and at home against them on Thursday. Marshfield will then play four games in two days at the La Crosse Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
