Pittsville track athlete Chris Snook has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com June High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Snook received 35 percent of the nearly 400 votes cast.

Other nominees for the June award were Auburndale track athlete Kali Karl, Spencer track athlete Johanna Ellefson, Marshfield boys golfer Derek Michalski, and Edgar track athlete Macey Wirkus.

Snook, a sophomore, earned a pair of medals at the 2017 WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse on June 2-3. Snook won the Division 3 boys 400 meters in 50.36 seconds to take the gold, and was also fourth in the D-3 boys 100 meters, finishing in 11.62 to grab another state medal. Snook also took seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.14 seconds.

Snook joins Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl (September), Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey (October), Abbotsford football player Ethan Kramas (November), Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler (December), Marshfield boys basketball player Ethan Posteluk (January), Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Tyler Fuerlinger (February), the Stratford wrestling team (March), Pittsville baseball player Jacob Neve (April), and Athens baseball player Seth Coker (May) as winners of the award during the 2016-17 school year.

The winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced Monday, July 10.
