Marshfield Tennis Association crowns three champions at annual Doubles Tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tennis Association hosted its annual MTA Doubles Tournament on Aug. 4-5 at the Boson Courts at Marshfield High School.

A total of 17 doubles teams played in a number of divisions, playing two sets Ad scoring with the third set being played as a 10-point tiebreaker at the two-day tournament

David and Joel Zalewski of Antigo beat Duane and Brett Haakenson of Antigo to win the Doubles Combo division with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory in the finals. Renee Wesolowski and Jill Joyce of Marshfield won the consolation bracket.

Dillon and Scott Scheuer of Marshfield took first place in the Adult-Child U14 round robin division, beating Lucy and Ali Luedtke 6-3, 6-2, and Ryan Paulman and Kristin Gerndt 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.

The Mixed Doubles round robin champions were Emily Shipman of Medford and Greg Emerson of Altoona, who beat Jill Joyce and Garry Koehler 6-2, 4-6, 11-9; Holly and Doug Reckner 6-4, 7-5; and Renee and Pat Wesolowski 6-3, 6-1.

β€œThe MTA would like to thank all of the participants for making the tournament fun and competitive, the spectators who came to cheer on their favorite teams, and the Marshfield High School tennis coaches for use of their scorecards,” MTA President Ali Luedtke said.
