Marshfield boys finish second at SPASH Panther Cross Country Invitational

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys cross country team continued its strong start to the season by taking second at the SPASH Panther Invitational on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.

Stevens Point won the boys team title with 73 points, with Marshfield a close second with 91. Auburndale was 16th with 437 points.

Marshfield had three medalists finishing in the top 15, led by senior Jordan Dzikowich, who took sixth in 17:01.3. Joseph McKee was right behind in seventh (17:02.1) and Addison Hill was 13th in 17:06.1. Jared Oemig ended up 27th (17:36.2) and Carter Chojnacki was 38th (18:07.6) to round out the Tigers’ top five.

“Our top four guys were ready to race today,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We wanted to run well on this course because the (Wisconsin Valley) conference meet is there in five weeks.”

Rosholt’s Adam Rzentkowski won the boys race in 16:25.1, 18 seconds ahead of Beaver Dam’s Cade Ferron. Stevens Point’s Johnny Hyland was third in 16:53.1.

Carl Lundrgen was Auburndale’s top runner, taking 63rd in 18:48.6.

Stevens Point also won the girls title with 102 points, 16 ahead of Beaver Dam. Auburndale was eighth with 192 points, and Marshfield 10th in 302 points.

Isabella Jewell was Auburndale’s top runner as she finished 18th in 21:03.6.

Senior Sophia Schrodi led Marshfield, taking 21st in 21:16.7.

Jada Donaldson of Beaver Dam won the girls race in 19:42.0, less than 1 second ahead of Wausau West’s Brooke Jaworski.
