ABBOTSFORD – Spencer won three of five matches to place fifth at the Bud Nelson Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at Abbotsford High School.

Spencer beat Waupaca 25-16, 19-25, 19-17; Rosholt 16-25, 25-21, 19-17; and Loyal 25-21, 25-17 in the fifth-place match. The Rockets lost to Chippewa Falls McDonell 25-7, 25-10, and Abbotsford 25-14, 25-11.

Sadie Mercier had 42 kills, 44 digs, and five service aces, Kathryn Hall had 12 aces and 35 digs, and Lindsey Loos had 55 assists for Spencer.

“We played well for having multiple girls out of the lineup,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “Sadie Mercier really picked up her game as we asked her to hit today instead of set. Also, Kat Hall did a great job serving for us. Going 3-2 was a nice way to end up on the day.”

Spencer returns to action Tuesday at Neillsville for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division match.
