Marshfield Tennis Association holds annual tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tennis Association hosted the Marshfield Tennis Tournament at the JD Boson courts on Saturday and Sunday.

Thirty-five participants ranging in age from 13 to 61 took the courts for singles and doubles competitions.

Seven women and 21 men took part in singles competition, and four women’s doubles teams and seven men’s double teams also participated.

Holly Reckner defeated Ali Luedtke 6-1, 6-3 to win the women’s singles title. Elizabeth Manlick beat MaryLynn Kretchmar 6-4, 6-0 for the consolation bracket title. Reckner and Renee Wesolowski won the women’s double title with a 3-0 record in round-robin play.

Two recent Marshfield High School graduates battled for the men’s A singles title as Nick Ackerman beat John Coleman 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the championship match. Ryan Coleman beat Dave Droste 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in the third-place match and Kurt Hendrickson defeated Chris Gritzmacher 7-6, 2-6, 6-4, in the consolation bracket final.

In the men’s B singles round robin, Duane Pupp went 3-0 to win the title.

Ryan Coleman and John Coleman beat Grant Reckner and Kurt Hendrickson 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) in the men’s doubles championship.

Shanon Denzine and Zhan Ye defeated Duane Myklejord Sr. and Duane Myklejord Jr. 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the doubles consolation bracket final.

The Marshfield Doubles Tournament will be held Aug. 7-8.
