MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team moved into the Central Wisconsin Conference this season and came out with the same result as a year ago in the now-defunct Mid-State Soccer Conference.

The Dons are conference champions after edging Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Griese Park.

Nadim Torbey scored in the ninth minute, and after Amherst tied the game 9:16 into the second half, Torbey responded with what proved to be the game-winner 57 seconds later.

Kellen Heinzen had three saves in goal for the Dons, who finish the regular season at 16-4-1 overall and 13-1 in the CWC. Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt ends up 15-1-2 and 12-1-1 in conference play after suffering its first loss of the season.

Columbus Catholic will host a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Thursday at 4 p.m. at Griese Park.
