Columbus Catholic boys finish runner-up at 2017 Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet

EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys had a strong showing with a second-place finish at the 2017 Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday at City Wells Park.

Chippewa Falls McDonell had four top-seven finishers to easily win the boys team title with 34 points. Columbus Catholic was second with 110 and Spencer ended up fifth with 140.

Isaac Bohaty of McDonell won the boys race in 16:31.7, three seconds ahead of Eau Claire Regis’ Zach Yengo.

Joshua Guyer led Columbus, finishing 11th in 17:46.1. Peyton Nystrom was 19th (18:01.3), Jeremiah Giles was 25th (18:22.6), and Flynn McQuillen took 27th (18:33.6) for the Dons.

Aaron Pankratz was 13th in 17:46.7 to lead Spencer. Collin Nieman was 22nd in 18:08.3.

Neillsville/Granton won the girls team title with 62 points, well ahead of second-place Colby/Abbotsford (91). Spencer was seventh with 175 and Columbus Catholic took eighth with 185.

Savannah Schley of Loyal/Greenwood won the girls race in 19:32.0, six seconds ahead of Neillsville/Granton’s Chloee Lowry.

Leah Nieman was 21st (22:21.9) and Kaylee Wehrman took 29th (23:03.8) for Spencer.

Hailey Roehl finished 27th (22:53.9) and Marissa Immerfall ended up 32nd (23:15.6) for Columbus Catholic.

Spencer and Marshfield Columbus Catholic will compete at the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet Friday at Athens.
