MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team opened its 2017-18 season with a 99-71 loss to UW-Rock County on Saturday afternoon at the Marauder Gym.
The Marauders fell behind 41-32 by halftime and never recovered, allowing 58 second-half points to Rock County in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference West Division matchup.
Matt Karl came off the bench to score 18 points for the Marauders, making three 3-pointers. Matthew Carlson added 17 points and eight rebounds, drilling four 3-pointers, and Nathan McGrath added 11 points and six rebounds for Marshfield.
The Rattlers made 14 of 27 3-pointers, including six from Jacob Hanes, who had a game-high 30 points.
UW-Marshfield/Wood County returns to action Nov. 13 at UW-Fond du Lac.
