Marathon holds off Stratford girls basketball

STRATFORD – The Stratford girls basketball team held its own against undefeated Marathon, but the Raiders were able to make just enough free throws to hold off the Tigers for a 57-50 victory in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Stratford High School.

Alysha Stieber was 7-for-7 from the free throw line and made two 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 22 points to lead Marathon (6-0, 4-0 Marawood South).

Marathon led 22-19 at halftime and made 12 of 19 at the free throw line in the second half to hold on for the win.

Nine different Stratford players scored with none reaching double figures. Kaylee Hollatz hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points, and six others had six points each for the Tigers (1-5, 1-2 Marawood South).

Stratford hosts Prentice in a nonconference game Friday.
