MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored early and often, rolling to a big win in its opener of the Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament on Friday night at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

The Tigers put up four goals in the first period and six more in the second to whip Chequamegon/Phillips 11-3 and improve to 4-5 this season after winning their second game in a row.

Evan Weister and Ryan Krueger each scored twice, and seven other Marshfield players tallied goals in the victory.

“I feel like the come-from-behind victory on Tuesday (against Waupaca) has allowed us to gain some momentum,” Marshfield coach Eric Bowman said. “We were able to play a lot of young players tonight to allow them to get varsity experience. Now we need to shift our focus to two big games tomorrow for the program.”

Ben Lawyer got the ball rolling with a goal off assists from Nate Boson and Nick Urban 5:31 into the game.

Weister, Max Heller, and Isaac Wellens added goals in the first period, and Ben Baur scored 7:04 into the second period to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Chequamegon/Phillips (3-2) scored just 22 points later before the onslaught started for the Tigers.

Marshfield scored five goals in a span of 5:26 to open up a 10-1 lead. Krueger scored twice in the run, and Weister, Boson, and Justin Stanek added goals to help the Tigers open up the nine-goal advantage.

Urban added a goal 2:52 into the third period for the Tigers’ final goal.
Marshfield plays the WSFLG (Webster, Siren, Frederic, Luck, Grantsburg) Blizzard at 12:15 p.m. and Eau Claire Regis at 6:15 p.m. as the Andrew Thiel Tournament wraps up Saturday at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.
