AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls and boys basketball team swept a nonconference home doubleheader against Abbotsford on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Auburndale girls pulled away in the second half to beat the Falcons 51-44, while the Auburndale boys opened up a 21-point lead by halftime and cruised to a 75-34 victory.
In the girls contest, the game was tied 21-21 at halftime before Auburndale (6-2) outscored the Falcons (4-4) 30-23 in the second half to earn the win.
Isabelle Hilber scored a season-high 20 points, making 4 of 6 3-point attempts, to lead Auburndale. Marissa Ponshock added eight points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The Auburndale boys led 37-16 at halftime on its way to a 41-point victory.
Ten different Apaches scored in the win. Cale Jacoby had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Cooper Weinfurter had 14 points and seven steals, and Cameron Ertl chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for Auburndale.
The Auburndale girls return to action Monday at Nekoosa, while the boys will host Marathon on Tuesday.
