Stratford boys basketball holds off Athens

STRATFORD – Nine different players scored as the Stratford boys basketball team downed Athens 57-53 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Thursday night at Stratford High School.

Benjamin Barten had 13 points and Vaughn Breit added 11 for Stratford, which improves to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Marawood South. Athens is now 3-7 and 1-6 in the Marawood North.

Stratford pulled out to a 29-22 lead at halftime and held on, despite shooting just 39 percent (21 of 53) overall and 8 of 18 at the free throw line.

Stratford plays a nonconference game at Stevens Point Pacelli on Saturday.
