Stratford girls basketball cruises past Athens

ATHENS – The Stratford girls basketball team had only scored 50 points once all season.

On Friday, the Tigers shot 55 percent and hit for a season-high 71 points in a 71-41 rout of Athens in a Marawood Conference crossover game at Athens High School.

Stratford won for the fifth time in the last six games and evens its record at 6-6 overall and moves to 5-3 in the Marawood Conference South Division. Athens drops to 4-7 and 1-6 in the Marawood North.

Blaire Lindner made 8 of 10 shots and scored 16 points, and Brenna Ackley made all five of her shot attempts and added 11 points for the Tigers. Taya Nett also chipped in 11 points, making 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Kenadi Diedrich led the Bluejays with 21 points.

Stratford plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday.
