SCHOFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team won the final seven matches to coast past D.C. Everest 46-15 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Friday night at D.C. Everest Middle School.

Ben Gust won 10-4 at 170 pounds to start the run that included pins by Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (182), Sam Mitchell (220), and Conner Berry (285), a 12-6 win by Isaac Slark (195), and a forfeit victory by Gabe Pugh (113).

“Tigers like Ben Gust, tied 4-4 going into the third period dug deep to come out on top with a 10-4 win,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said. “Ben has been extremely dedicated and patient in his training process this year and I am really proud of his performance. Another big win tonight was from Issac Slark, jumping up a weight class to find a way to win 12-6 in a back and forth match with Everest’s Colton Bundy.

“Our focus this week was overcoming adversity and focusing on only what’s in our ‘control’. All of our guys tonight, whether they won or lost, focused on the positives during their wrestling match and that is a great trait to have as a team.”

Tanner kanable (126), Caden Pearce (138), and Payton Young (152) added victories by decision for Marshfield, which is now 4-0 in WVC action.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East on Thursday.
