Assumption tops Stratford boys basketball

WISCNOSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption handed the Stratford boys basketball team its second-straight loss, topping the Tigers 54-49 in a battle of two of the four Marawood Conference South Division co-leaders on Tuesday night at Assumption High School.

With the victory, Assumption remains in a three-way tie for the conference lead with a 7-2 record (9-3 overall). Stratford drops into fourth place at 6-3 (10-3 overall).

Auburndale and Marathon both won Tuesday to keep pace with the Royals on top of the Marawood South standings.

Stratford shot just 40 percent from the field and were only 8-for-28 from 3-point range in the loss.

Branden Ackley buried four 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead the Tigers. He was the only player in double figures for Stratford.

Stratford hosts Abbotsford on Friday.
