MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team stands one win from a second-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet season championship after a 66-6 rout of Wausau East on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield improves to 5-0 in the WVC with its final meet Jan. 25 at Wausau West. The Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament, which the Tigers also won last year, will be Feb. 3 at Wausau East.

Marshfield won six matches by pin and two others by forfeit, and suffered just one loss in the dual.

Caden Dennee (120 pounds), Brayden Richardson (145), Issac Slark (195) and Conner Berry (285) won for the Tigers with first-period pins. Dennee’s and Richardson’s came within the first minutes of their matches.

Payton Young (152) and Sam Mitchell (220) also earned pins for Marshfield.

Caden Pearce (138) won by technical fall and Tanner Kanable (126) won by major decision for the Tigers.

“Tonight was the last home dual meet of the season and we took that opportunity to honor all the parents involved in the wrestling program as well as our senior wrestlers,” Marshfield coach Jackson Hein said. “This year’s seniors, Alex Brost, AJ Leonhardt, Conner Berry, Quinton Alexander, Alex Slark and Payton Young, have helped out our program in so many ways. It’s such an honor to coach them and watch them develop into young men throughout their four years at MHS.”

Marshfield will compete at the Sparta Invitational on Saturday.
