Loyal pulls away in second half to top Columbus Catholic girls basketball

MARSHFIELD – Loyal made 18 of 24 free throws in the second half to pull away and defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 62-49 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Columbus Catholic led 25-22 at halftime before getting bogged down in foul trouble in the second half.

Loyal (9-11, 8-7 Cloverbelt East) pulled ahead and held off the Dons by making 18 free throws in the second half. Remi Geiger scored all 19 points of her points in the second half, going 9 of 12 at the free throw line.

Addison Baierl had 15 points to lead the Dons (11-8, 8-7 Cloverbelt East) before fouling out late. Morgan Albrecht and Marissa Immerfall each added 14 points for Columbus.

Columbus Catholic will wrap up its Cloverbelt East schedule Monday at Neillsville before playing a Cloverbelt crossover game next Thursday. The WIAA playoffs begin Feb. 20, with pairings set to be announced on Sunday.
