Stratford girls basketball whips Mauston in WIAA Division 3 playoff opener

STRATFORD – Nine different Stratford players hit the scoring column as the Tigers rolled past Mauston 58-35 in a WIAA Division 3 girls basketball regional quarterfinal on Wednesday at Stratford High School.

Taya Nett scored 10 of her 11 points in the first half as the Tigers cruised out to a 34-9 lead by the intermission and maintained a big lead the rest of the way.

The No. 6 seed Stratford (14-9) moves into a D-3 regional semifinal Friday at No. 3 seed Wautoma (17-5). Game time is 7 p.m.

Kaylee Hollatz hit two 3-pointers and scored a team-high 13 points, and Blaire Lindner, Macie Schillinger and Chelsey Gliniecki each chipped in eight for Stratford.

Skyylar Brescia had 20 of Mauston’s 35 points, 15 coming in the second half. Mauston finishes its season with a 6-17 record.
