Marshfield’s Schwanebeck-Ostermann wins pair of consolation matches at 2018 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament

MADISON – Marshfield junior Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann will earn a medal in his first trip to the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament after winning a pair of consolation bracket matches on Friday at the Kohl Center.

Schwanebeck-Ostermann (40-4) defeated Luke Geister-Jones of Stoughton by major decision, 11-0, and edged Nolan Paar of Oak Creek 5-3 to advance to the 170-pound consolation bracket semifinals. He is guaranteed no worse than sixth place and could finish as high as third.

Schwanebeck-Ostermann dominated Geister-Jones (38-15), using a pair of takedowns, a reversal and two nearfalls to roll to the major decision victory.

Schwanebeck-Ostermann will wrestle again on Saturday morning against the loser of Friday night’s semifinal match between Parker Keckeisen (29-0) of Glendale Nicolet and Hayden Krein (41-6) of Sparta. Keckeisen defeated Schwanebeck-Ostermann with a second-period pin in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Marshfield’s other two wrestlers in the consolation round were eliminated.

Gabe Pugh finishes his freshman season with a 37-7 record after losing a 10-4 decision to Parker Bevilacqua of Muskego in his first match on Friday.

Junior Tanner Kanable won by medical forfeit over Aaron Schulist of Mukwonago before dropping a 3-2 decision to Cayden Henschel (48-4) of West Bend East in the second round of the consolation bracket at 126 pounds.

Marshfield junior Sam Mitchell (45-2) will wrestle in a semifinal match at 182 pounds on Friday night against Isaac Lahr (48-3) of Holmen.
