Stratford uses free throws to pull past Wautoma in WIAA Division 3 girls basketball regional semifinal

WAUTOMA – The Stratford girls basketball team will play for a regional title after pulling off a 54-36 upset win over Wautoma in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal Friday night at Wautoma High School.

The sixth-seeded Stratford (15-9) will play at No. 2 seed Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (19-4) at 7 p.m. Saturday for the regional title and a berth in next week’s sectionals.

Stratford shot just 40 percent (17 of 42) from the field, by made hay at the free throw line, making 19 of 24.

Chelsey Glinieck went 5-for-6 at the line and scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as the Tigers pulled away.

Stratford led 20-15 at halftime before blowing past the Hornets (17-6) by making 12 of 13 free throws in the second half. Kaylee Hollatz was a perfect 4-for-4 at the line in the second half and finished with 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
