Marshfield, Auburndale compete at season-opening Stevens Point indoor track meets

STEVENS POINT – Marshfield and Auburndale kicked off the indoor track and field season by competing at the Stevens Point Panthers Girls and Boys Indoor Track Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Both the Marshfield boys and girls teams, and the Auburndale girls competed.

The girls meet was held Friday, March 16. Marshfield finished 10th with 27 points and Auburndale took 14th with 16 points. The Marshfield boys finished 11th with 17 points at the boys meet on Saturday, March 17. Kimberly won both team titles.

The Marshfield girls had six top-eight finishes, including three each from sophomore Gracie Holland and senior Meg Bryan.

Holland was second in the long jump (16 feet, 5 inches) and seventh in the pole vault (8-6), and Bryan took third in the long jump (16-4) and fifth in the triple jump (33-8).

Holland and Bryan teamed with Carly Brickley and Kaydee Johnson to take third in the 800-meter elay in 1;54.85.

Sophia Schrodi had the Tigers’ other top-eight finish, taking eighth in the 3,200 meters in 13:43.77.

Auburndale had two individual top-eight finishes. Isabella Jewell was eighth in the 400 (1:05.73) and Kali Karl took third in the 800 in 2:30.60.

Taylor Stanton, Vanessa Mitchell, Errika Zenner and Macie Schmeiser finished fifth in the 3,200 relay in 10:59.49, and Jewell, Schmeiser, Karl and Isabelle Hilber finished fourth in the 1,600 relay in 4:23.27.

Marshfield had four top-eight finishes in the boys meet.

Adam Elhendy-Gunnarsson took third in the 60 meters in 7.30 seconds and was fourth in the long jump with leap of 20 feet, 8 inches.

Joey Goettl took fourth in the triple jump (41-1) and Eric Kubash was eighth in the 60 hurdles (9.33 seconds) for the Tigers.

Marshfield will host its annual boys indoor invitational on Tuesday and the girls will host its annual event on Thursday.
