MARSHFIELD – The overall team finishes may not look all that impressive, but the Marshfield and Marshfield Columbus Catholic cross country teams had a number of good individual performances Saturday morning at the Marshfield Columbus Invitational at Wildwood Park.

The Marshfield girls finished fifth out of six teams and the boys seventh and last in the Division 1 brackets, but each had some impressive runs.

Marshfield’s Rebecca Voss finished fourth overall in a time of 15:24.6 and a pair of teammates, Lisa Kaiser (16:40.2) and Jennifer Kaiser (16:44.2) finished 20th and 21st, respectively, giving the Tigers a good showing from their top runners.

“It was a good individual day for us,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Rebecca stormed the course with our second fastest time ever for a Marshfield Tiger runner and Alexis Dzikowich ran a brilliant race for our girls team.”

Claire Pinter of Columbus took 30th in 17:01.2, which was seventh among the Division 3 teams.

On the boys side, Bryan Zimmerman was 32nd overall and 28th in Division 1 with a time of 17:36.7 to top the Marshfield runners.

Columbus Catholic’s Tyler Derfus was 104th and 25th among Division 3 runners with a time of 19:51.6.

Allie Woodward of Green Bay Notre Dame ran away with the girls race. She took off from the pack early and never looked back, finishing in a time of 14:28.9 – 40.5 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Emma-lisa Murphy of Whitefish Bay. Voss was 14.8 seconds behind third-place runner Katie Wetzstein of Hudson.

Whitefish Bay won the Division 1 team title with three top-eight finishes. Led by Woodward’s finish, Notre Dame won the Division 2 title. Edgar took first in Division 3.

The boys race turned into what some might see in a big Minnesota invite. The top five individual finishes came from runners from Minnesota teams, led by Josh Thorson of Division 1 team champ Wayzata in a time of 16:05.6.

Nekoosa won the Division 2 team title and Chequamegon was the Division 3 champion.

Marshfield hosts its annual Marshfield Invitational on Tuesday at Wildwood Park.

“The boys came in about one minute apart and we need to tighten this up,” Akin said. “Freshmen Nolan Redetzke and Max Tibbett ran very well for being only freshmen and I am pleased with their progress. Adam Voss, Adam Binder and Aaron Anderson all showed improvement over last year’s race.”
