OSSEO – A wild, back-and-forth game, came down to a two-point conversion in the final minutes, and Osseo-Fairchild was able to convert.

Jackson Johnson hit Brett Kostka for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 1:31 remaining, the fourth time the two connected for a score in the game, and the quarterback-receiver duo struck again for a two-point play to give Osseo-Fairchild a 37-36 win over Spencer/Columbus on Friday night at O-F High School.

Spencer/Columbus led the entire game as Osseo-Fairchild failed on five-straight two-point conversions following scores, but got the one to win it.

Ausitn Bacon had touchdown runs of 7, 5 and 25 yards in the first half to help the Rockets (0-2 overall, 0-1 Cloverbelt Conference) take a 25-12 lead with 1:23 to go before halftime.

Ryan Myhers hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Koxlien with 16 seconds to go in the half, making it 25-18 heading into intermission.

Johnson connected with Kostka on TD passes of 49 yards in the first half, and 28, 41 and 25 in the second half.

Eden Jacobson topped Spencer/Columbus with 209 yards rushing and scored twice in the second half from 5 and 25 yards. The second score put the Rockets up 37-30 with 3:46 remaining.

However, O-F drove the field and score just 2:15 later and converted the two-point pass to win it.

“Osseo Fairchild played a great game,” Rockets coach Jason Gorst said. “It came down to who made the last big play. I was proud of our effort tonight. Eden and Austin ran the ball hard, and the offensive line play was improved.”

Bacon added 129 yards rushing for the Rockets, who outgained O-F 410-400 overall.

Johnson threw for 245 yards, and Kostka hauled in five passes for 156 yards and the four scores for the Thunder (1-1 overall and Cloverbelt Conference).

Spencer/Columbus opens its home schedule next Friday, Sept. 6, against Fall Creek.
