Marshfield girls golf team sixth at WIAA regional

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield High School girls golf team’s season came to an end Wednesday as it competed at the WIAA Regional at SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens point.

Maggie Field led the Tigers with an 18-hole total of 110, which was 22nd among the 40 competitors.

Sara Sturomski and Macy Fitzgerald each shot a 114 to tie for 26th, and Kallie Mayer and Savannah Shortess both had a 120 to tie for 32nd to round out Marshfield’s team score of 458. The Tigers finished sixth in the team standings.

“Even though our season ended today the team did a nice job on a hard golf course,” Marshfield coach Janessa Bonikowske said.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams move on to the sectional meet next Tuesday at Trempaleau Mountain Golf Course in Holmen.

Onalaska won the meet with a score of 347 as it had three of the top five individual scores. Alli Plath won the meet with a 78, five shots ahead of teammate Carmen Lezpona, who was second. Andrea Jorgensen took fifth with an 89.

La Crosse Logan/Central was second with a 385, Tomah was third with a 388 and Holmen took the final team spot with a 392.

The four individuals moving on to sectionals are Ashley Nickel (tied for eighth, 93), Lauren Thompson (tied for 11th, 97) and Emily Mallek (tied for 14th, 98) of Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids’ Kennedy McDonald (tied for 11th, 97).
