DARLINGTON – Zach McArthur kicked a 20-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give Darlington a 23-20 win over Stratford in a WIAA Division 5 Level 2 football playoff game Saturday at Darlington High School.

Darlington drove 60 yards on the drive in the final 2 minutes and survived a controversial call to kick the game-winner.

On third down at the 3, Darlington lost control of the ball. Stratford thought it was a fumble, but the play was blown dead and ruled a spike by the quarterback. McArthur kicked the winning field goal on the next play.

Darlington (11-0) will play Arcadia (9-2) in a Level 3 game Friday or Saturday. A site and time are yet to be determined.

Stratford ends its season with a 8-3 record.

Darlington led 20-0 at halftime only to see the Tigers storm back and tie the game.

Mark Marquardt and Jamie Aschebrock had rushing touchdowns and with a little more than 2 minutes left, Shelley scored on a touchdown run. Stratford missed the extra point, but the game was tied 20-20.
