Marshfield, Stratford wrestlers in third place after first day of Bi-State Classic

LA CROSSE – Marshfield and Stratford sit in third place in Division 1 and 3, respectively, after the first day of the Bi-State Wrestling Classic.

Marshfield scored 149 points and sits 20 ½ points behind Wausau West and 25½ behind Hudson in the Division 1 team standings.

In Division 3, Stratford is at 102½ points, just one-half point behind New Lisbon for second place. Weston/Ithaca leads with 138 points.

Auburndale has 30 points and is tied for 17th out of the 20 teams in the D-3 field.

Torin Boernke (140 pounds), Josh Shupe (145) and Brad Dolezal (160) reached the semifinals for Marshfield.

Boernke went 3-0 with two major decisions and a technical fall, while Dolezal had two pins in his three victories.

Shupe went 4-0 and beat Dylan Detert of Wausau West 14-4 in the quarterfinals.

Daniel Barton (135) and Justin Sternweis (171) both lost quarterfinals for Marshfield

Luke Radke (189) is the only Stratford wrestler to qualify for the semifinals. He won all four of his matches Wednesday, three by pin.

Andrew Murdaugh lost in his 285-pound quarterfinal match as he was pinned by Taylor Henry of Viroqua in 2:40.

The competition will be completed Thursday.
