Stratford wrestling team goes 3-0 at home triple dual tournament

STRATFORD – The Stratford wrestling team rolled through its annual Stratford Triple Dual Tournament with a 3-0 record on Friday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 35-33, Elcho 72-5 and Spencer/Columbus 52-20. Spencer/Columbus beat Elcho 54-15 and lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood 57-21. W-B won the other match over Elcho 66-9.

In the win over Elcho, Stratford won seven matches by forfeit and four others by pin. Luke Radke (189 pounds), Andrew Murdaugh (285) and Phil Sersch (119) had pins in the first period for the Tigers.

Mark Marquardt (171), Jake Kauth (215), Sersch (119) and Evan Bohman (140) had pins in the win over Witt-Birn. Matt Zuelke nailed down a major decision, beating Michael Koeppel 14-1 in the final match to grab the two-point win for Stratford.

Against Spencer/Columbus, Radke (189), Murdaugh (285), Bohman (140) and Kellen Bornbach (152) had pins for Stratford. Aaron Dunbar (145) and Brady Zais (130) secured pins for the Rockets.

Stratford will return to action Thursday at Pittsville for its final Marawood Conference dual meet. Spencer/Columbus will participate in the Medford Tournament on Saturday.
