Four Marshfield Chaparrals pitchers combined on shutout of Plover

PLOVER – Jake Long and three other pitchers combined on an eight-hit shutout to lead the Marshfield Chaparrals to a 5-0 win over the Plover Pterodactyls on Thursday night in amateur baseball action.

Long tossed five scoreless innings, scattering six hits and striking out three. Lucious Messerschmidt struck out four in two innings and Mason Nesbitt and Ty Copeland each threw an inning to preserve the shutout for the Chaparrals, who improve to 11-4.

The four Marshfield pitchers did not walk a batter and combined for 11 strikeouts.

John Safford went 3-for-5 and Chuck Brehm and Cain Trunkel each had two hits and an RBI for Marshfield, which scored all five of its runs in the first four innings.

Marshfield is off until next Wednesday when it hosts the Appleton Legends at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
