Auburndale girls basketball beats Edgar in Marawood South opener

EDGAR – Sam Karl scored 10 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Auburndale girls basketball team defeated Edgar 45-38 in a Marawood Conference South Division matchup Tuesday night at Edgar High School.

Nicole Nikolay added nine points, and Emma Steines and Becky Willfahrt each scored eight for the Apaches, who improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Marawood South. Edgar falls to 2-2 and 0-2 in conference.

Edgar led 12-8 after the first quarter and 18-15 at halftime before the Apaches rallied with a 30-20 advantage in the second half.

Faryn Wirkus led the Wildcats with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Auburndale plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday.
