Marshfield girls, Columbus boys ranked in state poll

The Marshfield girls and the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball teams are ranked in the top 15 in their respective divisions by the Wissports.net Coaches Poll this week.

The Marshfield girls (15-2) are ranked No. 9 in the Division 1 poll after a win over Stevens Point last week.

The Tigers are clinched a tie for their sixth Wisconsin Valley Conference championship in the last eight years, and their third straight after beating D.C. Everest 46-29 on Tuesday. The Tigers play at Wausau East on Friday and will clinch the title outright with a victory.

The Columbus Catholic boys are ranked No. 8 in the Division 4 poll after losing to Nekoosa and Rib Lake last week in a pair of nonconference games.

The Dons (16-3) are holding a one-half game lead in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division after beating Granton on Tuesday. Columbus hosts Greenwood on Friday, and a road game at Loyal on Monday closes out the conference schedule.
