GRANTON – Spencer exploded for a 14-run fourth inning in demolishing Loyal 22-12 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Tuesday. The game was played at Granton.

The Rockets led 8-6 before ripping off the huge inning, then held on to the double-digit lead to win via the 10-run rule after five innings.

Dani Johnson walked five times and scored four runs, and three other Rockets scored three times each in the victory. Spencer improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Loyal was playing in its season opener.

Spencer needed only nine hits as it walked 20 times.

Paige Johnson and Sam Nikolay each had two singles for the Rockets. Nikolay drove in three runs and Kailyn Anderson, Paige Johnson and Courtney Schulz each had two RBIs.

“We did what we had to do at the plate by staying patient and making sure we were swinging at good pitches,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “We were better defensively until it got rough in the last inning with three errors.”

Spencer plays at Colby on Friday.
