Columbus Catholic baseball crushes Gilman

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic plated 10 runs in the third inning and pitcher Bryce DeSmet did the rest as the Dons rolled to a 14-2 win over Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Thursday.

Columbus scored three times in the first, added a single tally in the second and then poured it on with the huge 10-run third to grab a 14-0 lead.

DeSmet walked eight but allowed just five hits and struck out seven in five innings to earn the complete-game win for Columbus (1-1 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Brandon Nikolai and Jeremy Binder each had two hits and two RBIs, Alex Larson added two hits and an RBI and Pat Sullivan doubled and drove in a run for the Dons.

Columbus plays at Neillsville on Friday.
