Merrill sends Marshfield volleyball to second straight defeat

MERRILL – The Marshfield volleyball team lost its second straight Wisconsin Valley Conference match on Thursday, dropping a 3-2 decision to Merrill at Merrill High School.

The Tigers were unbeaten in the WVC before dropping back-to-back 3-2 matches to Stevens Point and now Merrill.

Merrill takes over sole possession of first place in the conference at 7-1 with the win, while the Tigers fall to 6-2.

Marshfield will get a chance to right the ship on Saturday when it hosts the second of two Wisconsin Valley Conference tournaments starting at 9 a.m. at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers will wrap up their regular season next week with matches at Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 9 and at home for Senior Night on Oct. 11 against D.C. Everest.

Tiffany Stargardt had 22 kills and 20 digs, Darian Molter added 22 digs, Chelsea Akin had 20 digs and Tori Nanstad led Marshfeild with 58 assists in the loss.
