STRATFORD – The Stratford STAR Men’s Basketball League opened play for the 2012-13 season with seven games on Sunday.
Barry Messman scored a league-high 47 points to lead Resource Recovery to a 77-58 win over Kafka Granite. Brian Heusi led Kafka with 22 points.
In other games:
*A&B Process Systems edged Lindsey Bar & Grill 86-85 behind 25 points from Tony Schultz and 22 points from Andy Bliven. Shawn Handke and Lee Follen had 27 points each for Lindsey Bar.
*In another one-point game, Smazel’s Hunters Choice topped After Hours 74-73. Brian Bartnik had 31 points and Jimmy Flink added 23 for Smazel’s.
*Kizzy & Sue’s Bar & Grill beat Down Under Bar & Grill 69-52 behind 34 points from Jay Fueher.
*Marawood Construction knocked off Southway Pub 74-56. Bryan Weichelt had 21 points for Marawood, while Southway Pub’s Kacey Weber topped all scorers with 30 points.
*Ian Keating had 25 points and Josh Hennes scored 24 as Victory Apparel ripped Country Wireless 91-35. Jake Kolb had 23 points for Country Wireless.
*Arby’s beat USBancorp 55-47. Nick Sternitzky had 19 points for Arby’s and Chris Newbury equaled that total for USBancorp.
