Marauders men’s, women’s basketball teams win at UW-Manitowoc

MANITOWOC – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s and men’s basketball teams each improved to 3-0 with wins at UW-Manitowoc on Saturday afternoon.

The Marauders women pounded Manitowoc 85-43 behind a triple-double by Kaitlyn Mefferd.

Mefferd had 21 points, 15 reboudns and 12 assists to lead the Marauders. Heather Adrian added 15 points and 14 rebounds, McKenzie Trunkel was 8 of 9 from 3-point range and finished with 26 points, Addie Vold added 12 points and Corrine Meacham chipped in 11 points for Marshfield

“I am really happy how well these girls played today,” Marauders coach Rhonda Keding said. “There was some nice ball movement looking for the open player for the shot. The girls are finding out what each one does for the team and now we can only get stronger using that.”

The UW-Marshfield men’s team edged UW-Manitowoc 80-79 as five Marauders scored in double figures.

Brandon Herr led the way with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Cain Trunkel added 15 points, Matt Grunewald had 11 and Leo Braun and Jesse Bejcek each scored 10 for the Marauders. Bejcek added 12 rebounds.

Both Marshfield teams play at UW-Marinette on Monday, with the women’s game at 5 p.m. and the men’s game to follow at 7 p.m.

The Marauders teams open their home schedule on Wednesday against Western Technical College of La Crosse.
