SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team overcame a slow start and defeated Owen-Withee 3-1 to wrap up the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship for the second straight season.

The Rockets won 22-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17, and finish the Cloverbelt East season with a perfect 8-0 record.

“We were not ready for their tip-and-push style in Game 1,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “They caught us on our heels early, but the girls really started to push back at the end of game one and carried the momentum through to a repeat conference title.”

Marisa Johnson had 18 kills, three service aces, two blocks and 35 digs to lead Spencer. Macie Weber and Sydney Kind each had 10 kills, Brooke Kettleborough had 45 assists and three aces, Tynae Phillips had three blocks and Lindsey Vaughan had 41 digs for Spencer.

Spencer has a nonconference game at Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on Thursday and will take part in the Cloverbelt Crossovers on Oct. 17 in the first-place match at either Stanley-Boyd or Eau Claire Regis.
