MARSHFIELD – It took just 16 seconds for the Marshfield boys soccer team to get a shot on goal, and the Tigers didn’t let up.

Marshfield dominated the action from start to finish, scored five times in the first 14:26, and rolled to a 12-0 win over Antigo in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal Tuesday at Griese Park.

Marshfield, the Wisconsin Valley Conference champion, was the only WVC team to win a playoff game on Tuesday. The other six teams in the conference all lost either Division 1 or Division 2 regional semifinals.

Four different Tigers scored two goals each in the rout. Marshfield improves to 17-4-2 and will play Shawano in a Division 2 regional final at 4 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.

Matt DeGrand and Jake Limmex each scored twice in the first 12:20 of the game, and Thomas Krueger scored twice in a 38-second span late in the first half for Marshfield.

Ryan Hayes also scored twice in the second half for the Tigers.

“We came out right from the start,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “We talked about it that we needed to put this game away early and we needed to play at our level and not at their level. They went out and performed very well today.”

Antigo (0-21) did not manage one shot on goal as Marshfield split time with goalkeepers Matt Brown, Mathias Holm and Trevyn Tham, who didn’t have much to do.

The Tigers dominated play throughout and put 23 shots on goal, nine of which were saved by Antigo goalkeeper Kyle Gatton.

Austin Gilbert had a goal on a penalty kick in the first half and assisted on Limmex’s second score. Chris Pahl, Austin Kopp and Alex Babinski also scored for the Tigers.

“The starters played about 30 minutes of the game,” Todryk said. “We still have some guys that have some nicks, and being able to put them on the sideline and give them some time to recoup a little bit longer…We have a big game coming up Thursday and we need them to be 100 percent for then.”
