PITTSVILLE – Stratford shut out Pittsville in the first quarter and never trailed, blasting the Panthers 51-23 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday at Pittsville High School.
Stratford led 7-0 after one quarter and 23-5 at halftime as Pittsville made just two baskets in the first 16 minutes.
The Tigers improve to 10-11 and finish the Marawood South season with a 6-8 record and in fifth place.
Pittsville is now 5-15 and ends up 2-12 in the Marawood South.
Savannah Schillinger had 12 points, making 4 of 9 from 3-point range, win the win for Stratford. In all, nine different Tigers scored at least two points in the game.
Only three Panthers scored, with Laura Ewer netting 12 points in the loss.
Stratford will play in a Marawood North-South crossover game on Thursday. An opponent has not been announced. The Tigers will open WIAA Division 4 playoff action with a regional quarterfinal at home against Spencer on March 4 at 7 p.m.
